15 NFL Quarterback Soap Operas

It seems that there are few teams that have a sure thing at quarterback or QB situation without controversy or question marks. Here's my Top 15 QB Dramas.

15. Broncos: Denver is sour on departed Jay Cutler but can Kyle Orton make them forget him?

14. Redskins: If Jason Campbell doesn't play well or win, is he's out?

13. Seahawks: Now healthy, can Matt Hasselback return to winning form?

12. Jets: Rookie Mark Sanchez is getting the starting job. Is it too much too soon?

11. Packers: Can Aaron Rodgers improve in 2nd year at the helm?

10. Brown: Is it going to be Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson?

9. Texans & Browns: Can Matt Schaub & Carson Palmer stay healthy for a whole season?

8. Titans: Will Vince Young get another chance? Has he matured if not?

7. Patriots: Can a healthy Tom Brady who missed all of last season return to his superstar form?

6. Bucaneers: Who will win the 4-man race for QB? Leftwich, Johnson, McCowan, or Freeman?

5. Chiefs: Can Matt Cassel turn the franchise around?

4. Lions: Can Matthew Stafford live up to the hype and big contract in his rookie season?

3. Bears: Jay Cutler has Bears fans thinking Super Bowl. How will he actually perform?

2. Eagles: Will the addition of Michael Vick be a distraction or a bonus?

1. Vikings: Brett Favre suits up for the Packers' bitter rival. What will we be saying about this in January?

Friday night my Dad and I went to see a Nashville Sounds minor-league baseball game. The Sounds were playing the Fresno Grizzlies, the minor-league team of the San Francisco Giants.

We were hoping to meet former FSU star Buster Posey, starting catcher for Fresno but he was injured.

Coming into the game, the Sounds were a half-game out of 1st place in their division. Anyways about the game.... The Sounds got off to a great start, with a leadoff double. They would drive him in to make it 1-0 Sounds. After 3 more innings Nashville had piled on three more runs to make it 4-0. Meanwhile, the Sounds pitcher Lindsay Gulin was throwing a gem, allowing no runs so far in the game. Gulin was especially effective throwing his changeup, striking out about 5 hitters with the pitch in the game.

But, the Sounds couldn't hold onto the lead. The Grizzlies came back to lead the game 5-4 in the 6th inning. In the 7th inning the Sounds and the Grizzlies both scored 1 run, making the score 6-5. The 8th inning would be a wild one. The Sounds first held Fresno to no runs. Now it was the bottom of the 8th inning, Nashville down 1 run.The leadoff hitter reached base. He would soon score on a sac fly with 1 out! The Sounds had tied the game. Now there was a man on 2nd base with one out. With two outs, a man still on second, pinch-hitter Erick Almonte stepped up to the plate. And stepped up was what he did.He singled past the 1st baseman, the runner getting waved home..... SAFE!!!!! The Sounds had taken a 7-6 lead with two outs in the bottom of the 8th inning!!

Then it was on to the 9th. The Sounds brought in closer Chris Smith to pitch. The Grizzlies managed to get a runner to second base with 1 out. Then, the next batter singled up the middle, runner rounding third coming home the right fielder picked up the ball and threw the relay home in time for a homeplate collision... OUT!!!!! The outfielder had thrown a strike to home plate and nailed the runner. The play saved them a run, and the lead. Then, with two outs in the 9th inning, Sounds up 1 , runner on third, the opposing batter stepped up to the plate. CRACK! A hard liner, snagged by the first baseman! The Sounds win in a great and crazy game 7-6 over the Fresno Grizzlies!

After the game the lights were turned out for the fireworks display. But the real fireworks had been sparked on the field by great competition.

FAN-TASY TEAM IS FAN-TASTIC FOR THIS FAN

Monday night the Oakland A's held on to beat the Twins 14-13.

Besides the high score and dramatic finish here are some other unusal stats:

Oakland used 7 pitchers and still won. Minnesota used 5 pitchers and got ZERO strikeouts.

Justin Morneau of the Twins: 3 for 5 at the plate, 7 RBIs and a walk, a double and 2 homeruns including a Grand Slam. Total Fantasy Points: 44

Matt Holliday of the A's: 4 for 5 at the plate, 6 RBIs, 2 doubles, 2 homeruns including a Grand Slam. Total Fantasy Points: 41

Morneau and Holliday combined for 85 Fantasy points. That's the most by any player(s) this year and it happened on the same night in the same game!!

And....THEY ARE BOTH ON MY FANTASY TEAM. So guess who is blowing the doors off in my fantasy league this week?

Here's me holding the Univ of TN football helmet that Jason Witten autographed.

It says, "To Cameron, Best Wishes!" Jason Witten

The helmet is in my room. You can't miss it when you walk in.

D1 Event With Jason Witten

Last night I went out D1 Sports Training with my Dad. We were invited by our good friend Matt Toy the PR guy at D1 to this big dinner with about 200 people. The featured speaker at the event was Jason Witten, the All-Pro Tight End from the Dallas Cowboys.(He played his college ball at UT). Matt invited me to challenge Jason in a game they called "Are You Smarter Than A Football Player?"

It was just me and Jason Witten up on stage. They asked 2 questions each to Jason and me, about Jason's football career with UT and the Cowboys. I answered both of my questions correctly, while Jason, with the questions being about his own career, answered 1 of his 2 questions right, so I won. I got to talk to him, and he is a great player on the field, and also a great person off of it. He talked on stage for a little bit, and I really enjoyed what he had to say.

But, the game was not all the fun. There was a silent auction there with all the prizes being sports related. As you know, I love sports. So, obviously as soon as I heard " silent auction", and "sports" in the same sentence, I was pretty excited. "When I first got over to the table I started asking if we could bid for some stuff. "Daddy, can we bid for this?" What about that one?" "C'mon, it's only 500.00!!!!" Anyway, we bid on a couple things not so expensive, and at the end I'll tell you what I won .

Meanwhile, there was a drawing for a Univ of TN full-size football helmet signed by Jason Witten. Well, he called the number.... and we had the number!! So we went up there and received a UT football helmet and Jason came over and autographed it to me. So not only had I gotten to go up on stage and play the game with Jason Witten, I won the football helmet also!!!

After that they had a couple speakers come up and talk for a little bit. Although the evening events were over, I had a couple more things to do. First, I went up to Jason Witten, and I got him to sign my friends' football cards that they gave to me to get signed and then sign my card also.

And then, at the very end before we left...remember the silent auction I mentioned before? Well, I won some really cool stuff. In the auction I won a personal signed LaDanian Tomlinson helmet(one of my favorite NFL players) and a signed Heath Miller helmet also! (Miller is the starting TE for the Pitt. Steelers and was on my fantasy team last year) So we picked up the prizes we won, plus a t-shirt I won because they picked my question about mentors to ask Jason during the interview.

I had an AMAZING time. I got to meet Jason Witten, go on stage with him for our contest, get a picture with him and later get his autograph, receive a Jason Witten autographed UT football helmet, also won a LaDanian Tomlinson signed helmet, and a Heath Miller signed helmet. I can probably say I was the luckiest person there...

Picking Cameron's Knows: MLB All-Star Game

I predict that the National League will beat the American League 5-3 for the NL's first win since 1996.

Phillies 2nd baseman Chase Utley will be MVP, although I hope it's Albert Puljos

Don't Miss Wakefield Pitching
National League hitters are not accustomed to seeing AL's (Boston)Tim Wakefield's (first All-Star game) knuckleball. Could be interesting for the batters...and the poor AL (Twins) catcher Joe Mauer who has never caught a knuckleball pitcher.

I correctly picked Home Run Derby champ Cecil Fielder (former Nashville Sounds player!)

All-Star game is being played at Busch Stadium in St. Louis where I'll be in 2 weeks!!!!

Bisons Upset Bruins in Battle of the Blvd

It's called the Battle of the Boulevard and it was a war right down to the last minute.
Thank you to Brent High for giving us the tickets and great seats. The arena was packed and rowdy for this rivalry between Nashville college neighbors, Belmont and Lipscomb. Underdog Lipscomb used the home court to their advantage and pulled off the upset 73-68.

It was a very physical game with losts of scrambles for loose balls, bodies on the floor, and fouls. Lipscomb's power man Adnan Hodzic dominated the inside with rebounds and points. But Belmont still would have won if their big man Jon House had made his many close shots and lay-ups. How can you miss that many times from that close to the rim? When the buzzer sounded the Lipscomb students rushed the court and are probably still celebrating.

This is Jarrett Dillard, wide receiver from Rice University. He was really nice and easy to talk to. This year Jarrett set the NCAA record for most career touchdowns with 60. He let me throw him some passes which was pretty cool.

Most Memorable Moment: Beating rival University of Houston 42-28.

Most Memorable Touchdown: My first one…I was hot dogging a bit going into the end zone and then my celebration was cut short when the play was called back because of a holding call on a lineman. I was really disappointed. After that whenever I scored I just handed the ball to the ref—no hot dog stuff.

Most Memorable Catch: The pass from Cameron Presson.
Your all-time favorite NFL player: Jerry Rice
The player in the NFL you'd most like to score a touchdown on: Pac Man Jones

Countdown to NFL Draft: Training for the Combine

Matt Toy from D1 Sports in Franklin http://www.d1sportstraining.com/ invited me back again this year to watch, meet, and interview the players who are in town training for the NFL Combine which starts next week in Indy.

I really enjoyed it last year and I followed the players through the combine on TV, the NFL draft, and their rookie season. Not all the players got drafted or made a team roster and that’s sorta sad. But for the ones that did it was fun to watch them play on TV or read about them in magazines or internet. Some became starters and played really well this past year. Others are trying to break into the starting line-up.

My favorite moment today was throwing passes to wide receivers Jarrett Dillard (that’s him catching my long pass!) and Lucas Taylor.

I also got to meet Gary Estwick, sports reporter for The Tennessean newspaper who covers the Titans. He told me about how he became a sports broadcaster and reporter and he gave me some great tips on interviewing players and for improving my blog. Everybody was super nice to me. D1 Sports has a blog and it now has a link to my blog which is really cool of them. Check out their blog at http://www.d1sportstraining.blogspot.com/

Over the next few days I'll post some photos and some of my interviews with the players.
